Europe. Peace and war
Summary of the project
Europe today is based on the principle of unity in diversity, principle which is more necessary since it is constantly facing challenges that could jeopardize the current stability. The project "In the wake of war. Endless stories" is dedicated to the centenary of World War I. This foray into the common history of the first half century aims at providing a multiple perspective on the two world wars by reconstructing both the daily life of those on the front and behind it through pictures, letters, journals and newspapers of the time as well as major military confrontations.
The project seeks to revive forgotten events and to analyze the consequences the confrontations and separatism had on Europe and on the world, on the mentalities, the way of life and also of the contribution the two world wars had on the birth of a new Europe, based on the idea of unity. In the same time, the reconstruction of the events through personal stories aims at showing how similar the fundamental values to which we refer are.
The target group of the project consists of high school students - the teenagers of today, the adults of tomorrow. The choice was motivated by the fact that, according to the education and information they receive, they will influence the future of Europe.
The project is designed to enable the students to interact with people from all over Europe, of various ages and interests, in order to build a dialogue among generations and also among cultures.
The approaches are less formal, each student having the possibility to choose the form of expression which corresponds to the greatest extent to their interests and abilities: interviews, dramatizations, animation, or other forms of artistic expression.
Even if this journey is just beginning, it has allowed the students to acknowledge that they are part of a large community that has transcended the barriers that used to separate us. The project put them in the position of researchers involved in reconstructing the family history through interviews, pictures, or found letters or diaries, which contributed to the accumulation of knowledge, the enriching their general knowledge and understanding the phenomena and the problems of today's world.
